Artists

Check out the links below for bios and useful resources on current or recent KHS artists. To keep things up-to-date and still comprehensive, to appear on this page an artist must have appeared in at least two KHS videos during the past year. This means these bios will probably rotate on occasion.

Sam Tsui

Sam Tsui Collage

Sam Tsui comes from a musical family, and has been singing recreationally as long as he can remember. He’s never taken music or singing lessons—he has no formal vocal training whatsoever. And at Yale he majored in classical Greek, a field of study about as far removed from music as possible. Yet today he is known all over the world for his incredible voice and stage presence. With his vocal range, power, and flexibility, he is able to serve as his own backup singers and excel at a range of musical genres and styles. Sam is also a talented actor, and has an entertaining and charismatic personality that has become quite a force on YouTube. Probably the most striking thing about Sam (besides his voice) is his incredible energy and enthusiasm. He clearly loves what he does—and has a hard time not smiling when performing even the most serious of songs.

Bio

Sam Tsui

Throughout high school and college, Sam was involved in a number of musical groups and stage productions (see the Resources page for videos). To his fans, though, he’s known best as the star of the KurtHugoScheinder YouTube channel. From the earliest, somewhat gimmicky “Sam clone” videos (“Don’t Stop Believing,” “Michael Jackson Medley,” etc.) to today’s medleys, acoustic and professionally produced covers, collaborations, and original music videos, Sam has always been the face of KHS. His work with Kurt attracted attention from the likes of CNN, Time Magazine, and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, and garnered him appearances on The Bonnie Hunt Show, The Today Show, MTV, The Oprah Show, and The Ellen Show. Most recently, he served as a Digital Correspondent for the 3rd season of the NBC show The Sing-Off.

In addition to singing and acting, Sam also paints, plays piano, and writes songs, proving himself a well-rounded creative artist. In fall 2011 he created his own YouTube channel, TheSamTsui, where he uploads covers he’s filmed and produced on his own. He’s still a regular on KHS, though, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Some of his most notable KHS work are his two original music videos (“Don’t Want an Ending” and “Start Again”) and his starring role in College Musical—both the YouTube and film versions. With such a solid base of talent, experience, and motivation, he’s poised to go far both on YouTube and off.

Max Schneider

Bio

Max SchneiderA performer from a young age, today Max Schneider is a talented actor, singer, and songwriter. With a diverse range of projects under his belt already, he’s on his way to becoming a real success in the entertainment industry. He’s starred on Broadway, made guest appearances on a number of TV shows, and even modeled with Madonna in an ad campaign. In 2010 he was fortunate enough to be accepted into an arts program in Miami, where he studied musical theater.

Most recently, Max starred in a TV musical movie for Nickelodeon (RAGS) and plays a main character in the Nickelodeon show “How to Rock,” which first aired in February 2012. In addition to work on his own upcoming album, Max has also written a number of songs for other artists. He has his own YouTube channel, where he posts both covers and originals. And, of course, he is currently the most frequently featured singer on KHS. (But no, he’s not related to Kurt.)

Victoria Justice

Bio

Victoria JusticeVictoria Justice has been singing and acting all her life—she appeared in her first TV commercials when she was eight. Just like Max Schneider, Victoria is best known for her work on Nickelodeon. She’s appeared on a number of shows, the most recent of which, Victorious, is currently in its third season. Victoria’s vocal talents are featured on both the show and the official soundtrack, and many of her singles from the show have done well on iTunes.

Victoria has appeared in several theatrical and TV movies, and plays the lead in the upcoming comedy film Fun Size. In addition, she is currently working on her debut solo album. During her career, Victoria has been nominated for several honors including the Teen Choice and Kid’s Choice Awards. She’s the most recent artist to appear on KHS, likely through her connection with Max. (And yes, she’s only been in one video so far. But there’s another coming up soon so we’d figured we would go ahead and put her up.)

Currently, his channel has over 630,000 subscribers and almost 100 million total views. He’s posted a ton of covers, both acoustic and professionally produced, and several original songs (all of which are available on iTunes). Very much a one-man-band, Alex sings his own backup vocals and plays guitar, piano, and various other instruments. Andrew Johnson

Bio

Andy JohnsonWe don’t know a whole lot about Andrew Johnson—he’s a little mysterious. He went to Yale with Kurt, and the two were roommates for quite a while. Andrew also worked on College Musical in some capacity. But mostly, he just shows up out of the blue on KHS to play some amazing piano medley once in a while. What does he do when he’s not making “Happy Birthday” into a technical masterpiece? Who knows. But his videos are well worth looking forward to.

Aimee Proal

Bio

Aimee ProalA signer-songwriter from Massachusetts, Aimee Proal is a talented artist still looking for that big break. In the mid-2000s she was the lead singer in a band called Gone ‘Til November, and she’s worked with a number of different writers and producers over the years. Her voice and personality is what shines through in her KHS videos, but it’s her songwriting that has gained her the most success so far. Most notably, she co-wrote a song on Kelly Clarkson’s album All I Ever Wanted, as well as one on American Idol finalist Allison Iraheta’s debut album. She also wrote a song for YouTube artist Christina Grimmie’s original album.

Olivia hasn’t appeared on KHS in a while, but she’s still active on her own YouTube channel, where she’s put up several covers with other youtubers. There are also a number of videos of her and Kurt on her channel that never made it onto KHS.
